Red Tide is a graphic novel project that follows the story of Mika: a thirteen-year-old science geek who discovers she has otherworldly powers when she’s on her period.
Set between a clash of powerful women, elemental magic, interdimensional travel, and the weird world of middle school, Red Tide is a coming-of-age tale that blends fantasy, science fiction, and mythology into an adventurous, yet tender and emotionally intuitive story that beckons readers of Neil Gaiman, Brian K. Vaughan, Marjorie Liu, and Jeff Lemire.

When a precocious eleven-year-old girl enters her shop at the end of a long day, a 1930s New Orleans florist agrees to work through the night to construct a floral arrangement for a funeral the coming morning. The girl is named Adeil, and she pays the florist in stories--with each new flower she carefully selects and arranges, the florist finds herself further ensconced in the fairy tale that is Adeil's time with disillusioned, past-her-prime showgirl Josette. But as the tale progresses, the warm, vibrant memories wither into something much more sinister. And before the night is out, the florist will come to realize that Adeil's visit cuts deeper than her need for a fresh bouquet.
From Eisner Award-winning writer Darcy Van Poelgeest and superstar watercolor artist Erin Connally comes The Cutting Garden, a gorgeously rendered meditation on finding beauty in the darkest corners of our own humanity.
Client: Adobe Fresco
Timeline: April 7 - May 7, 2021
I was selected to be a 2021 recipient of the Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund. Adobe Fresco commissioned me to create an illustration with a watercolor aesthetic (entirely in Fresco) that would appeal to aspiring and early-stage illustrators. Along with this illustration, I was asked to create a video tutorial utilizing Fresco’s live brushes.
As an analogue watercolor illustrator, this was a delightful leap into the lesser known. And, as a graphic novel illustrator with a free rein to choose what to paint, I chose to create a splash page of a current story I am dreaming up.
Feel free to visit here to view the video I created to accompany The Storm.

I have a small passion for insects and entomological studies. During the pandemic, I raised luna moths, and let’s just say, it was an experience. For my fellow bug lovers out there, here are some entomological studies.
